SINGAPORE - 30 November, 2009 - Fumbling of notes and coins and holding up the queue will soon be a thing of the past at the Takashimaya Food Hall as EZ-Link announces the acceptance of the new CEPAS-compliant ez-link cards as a payment option for food and beverages at this popular food locale.

To be launched from 2nd December 2009, this adds yet another use for the new ez-link card as a form of payment in non-transit establishments in Singapore. This landmark coup of adding a major food hall in the middle of Orchard Road, Singapore’s busiest shopping belt, represents EZ-Link’s commitment and aggression to be a major player in the retail business.

With over 80% of the retailers at the Food Hall, one of the largest in Singapore, wired up to accept ez-link card payments to encourage customer spend, customers heading to the establishment will enjoy 3% rebates on their ez-link transactions when they spend $6.00 or more per transaction at the outlets that accept ez-link card payments.

“We’re glad to be entering this partnership with a forward thinking company like EZ-Link, and stepping towards the beginning of a new era in fast and convenient cashless transactions. Takashimaya Department Store strives to put the needs of our customers above all and this includes offering a variety of choices in payment modes for convenience and time efficiency. Customer response to the newly installed EZ-link payment terminals at our Food Hall has been very positive,” said a spokesperson from Takashimaya Department Store.

This development is enabled by the Contactless POS Terminals Call-for-Collaboration (CFC), a joint initiative with industry under the Infocomm Development Authority’s iN2015 masterplan.

A list of the merchants that are enabled with the ez-link card payment mode can be found in Annex A.

“EZ-Link has always been working closely with IDA to promote cashless convenience within Singapore. With the new CEPAS-compliant ez-link card, new possibilities have opened up beyond the transit sector. Point by point, industry by industry, EZ-Link is offering payment by the ez-link card across the island thereby continuously value-adding to our consumers”, commented Mr Nicholas Lee, Executive Director of EZ-Link Pte Ltd.

Having laid the groundwork to have more than sufficient top-up channels both in and outside of the transit areas, EZ-Link is now looking at expanding its reach in the retail sector. The network of free top-ups for ez-link cards include General Ticketing Machines (GTM), Add-Value Machines (AVM), Passenger Service Offices (PSC) and Ticket Offices (TO), as well as over 900 DBS/POSB ATMs and over 200 D-Pay stations island-wide. Complementing these channels, ez-link cardholders may also choose to top-up their cards via 7-Eleven outlets, or via EZ-Reload by credit or charge card or by GIRO.
