Transitlink to start official sale of EZ-Link card on 13 April 2002 with more service points at NTUC Fairprice and Cheers

Issued By: EZ-Link Pte Ltd

TransitLink will officially start the sale and revaluation of Adult ez-link Cards at its Ticket Offices from Saturday, 13 April 2002. Five NTUC FairPrice stores and three Cheers outlets will also be launching their ez-link Card top-up service tomorrow. These outlets are the first in Singapore to be offering such service in a pilot scheme conducted by EZ-Link Pte Ltd to introduce more convenient service points to the public. These five NTUC Fairprice stores will also be providing magnetic Farecard refund services. Another five 7-eleven outlets are finalizing their participation in the same pilot scheme with EZ-Link Pte Ltd.

For the first 6 months following the ez-link system’s launch, all Singapore citizens, permanent residents, holders of Employment Pass and Work Permit can enjoy $2 off the usual $5 card deposit when they buy their first Adult ez-link Card. There is therefore plenty of time for commuters to get their discounted cards. Eligible commuters need only produce their original Identity Card, Employment Pass or Work Permit to enjoy the $2 discount. Subsequent purchase of the Adult ez-link Cards will be at $15 each.

Members of the public can visit the Passenger Service Centre at MRT stations if they are buying a 2nd ez-link Card, priced at $15 or to top-up their cards. All ez-link Cards can be topped up at the new General Ticketing Machines besides the usual TransitLink Ticket Offices and Add Value Machines.

Commuters in the queues at TransitLink Ticket Offices will be entitled to three transactions per queue turn so as to reduce queue time.

Those applying for personalised Senior Citizen ez-link SCN Card at Community Centres/Clubs or the Senior Citizen ez-link Card with forms available from Ticket Offices will also enjoy similar $2 off the card deposit.

Students enrolled in schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) are being progressively issued with School Smartcards through their schools. These cards can be immediately used for bus and train fares payment after they are topped up at Ticket Offices. The existing concession benefits for both groups would be available in the new ez-link Card system.

Ez-link Cards for pre-school children, tertiary students and full-time NS men will be launched in the next phases. More details will be released at a later date.

Take your time to refund your magnetic Farecards

TransitLink encourages commuters to hold on to their magnetic Farecards until they are accustomed to using the ez-link Card. The Farecard can still be used for travel on buses, the MRT and LRT for about six months following the launch of the ez-link Card system.

Commuters can take their time to refund their magnetic Farecards because cards bought or topped up from 1 August 2000 can be refunded for up to 4 years from the date of issue or last top-up and up to 2 years for Farecards bought or topped up before 1 August 2000.

Should commuters decide to refund their Farecards, they can do so at any TransitLink Ticket Office and at the 5 NTUC Fairprice outlets.
