Tertiary students can continue to use their tertiary student EZ-Link card after they graduate

Issued By: EZ-Link Pte Ltd, Transit Link Pte Ltd

SINGAPORE, 12 December 2003 – EZ-Link Pte Ltd and TransitLink Pte Ltd are pleased to announce that from December 13th, tertiary students who graduated this year can continue to use their cards if their cards are still valid. All they have to do is to re-validate their tertiary cards as an ordinary adult ez-link card. They can do so at any TransitLink’s Ticket Office and Add-Value machine (AVM). This is in response to numerous requests that graduate tertiary students be allowed to use their cards to the end of its useful life.

Background

Tertiary Student ez-link cards were initially meant to last for the duration of the student’s academic term, which is three to four years for most tertiary students. Currently, graduate tertiary students have a grace period of six months to continue using the Tertiary Student ez-link Card after the end of their concession eligibility. During this period, they can still use their tertiary ez-link cards to pay for their transportation needs at adult fare rates.

EZ-Link and TransitLink decided to extend the validity of the card to its full life span of the card as the cost of these cards have been paid for by the tertiary students.

How to extend the validity of the Tertiary student ez-link card

Graduate students can proceed to any TransitLink Ticket Office or AVM to extend the validity period of their Tertiary Student ez-link cards. Due to limitations in the system, the cards can only be extended for successive periods of 511 days (or about 1 year and 5 months) from the expiry of their concession eligibility.

Tertiary students must re-validate their cards in the last month of every 511 days until the card reaches its full 5 years. If they top up their card during the last month of the 511 days at any TransitLink Ticket Office or AVM, it will be re-validated automatically.

Therefore users would have to be mindful of the validity period/ expiry date of their cards because if the cardholder forgets to re-extend the card during the last month of its validity period, the card will expire and cannot be re-validated. However they can apply for deferred refund on the remaining value of the expired card at any TransitLink Ticket Office.

Users can check the validity period or expiry date of their cards at any TransitLink Ticket Office, AVM or General Ticketing Machine (GTM). And remember to re-validate their cards during the last month before the validity period expires.
