Account-based Concession Card Pilot Trial

What is SimplyGo?

‘SimplyGo’ (also known as Account-based ticketing) brings more ease and convenience to commuters by widening the range of e-payment options in transit.

To enjoy the benefits of SimplyGo, commuters may use their:

  1. Contactless bank card or mobile wallet, or
  2. Account-Based EZ-Link Cards
  3. [New!] Account-based Concession Cards

From 1 Sep 2021, EZ-Link will be launching a pilot programme for the Account-based Concession Cards that are compatible with SimplyGo.

With an Account-based Concession Card, commuters will be able to enjoy online mobile services, such as topping-up card value and viewing of fare and travel history on the EZ-Link app.

SimplyGo Pilot with Account-based Concession Cards

At the outset, EZ-Link will be inviting a select group of Concession Cardholders to participate in the pilot programme. Interested Concession Cardholders may also e-mail EZ-Link at customerservice@ezlink.com.sg to indicate your interest to participate.

An Account-based Concession Card will be sent to shortlisted participants through mail with an initial load value of $5 from late Aug 2021.

The SimplyGo pilot with Account-based Concession Cards will start from 1 Sep 2021.

You will receive $10 upon accumulating 20 trips@ in a calendar month, using the Account-based Concession Card issued to you. $10 will be credited into your Account-based Concession Card after two weeks upon accumulating 20 trips for the calendar month. The incentive programme will be available for a period of 3 months.

E.g. after accumulating 20 trips for the month of Sep 2021, $10 will be credited into your EZ-Link ABT CC from mid Oct 2021 onwards.

@ One trip refers to a deduction of fare by tapping in and out of an MRT/LRT station, or boarding and alighting from a bus. For example, Tampines MRT to Labrador MRT is equivalent to one trip, despite the change of lines.

Introduction to Account-based Concession Card

An Account-based Concession Card refers to a Concession card that is compatible with SimplyGo.

With an Account-based Concession Card, you can enjoy the following benefits:

  • Top up your Account-based Concession Card on the go (without requiring the presence of the physical card) with the EZ-Link app on your Android or iOS devices.
  • Keep track of your travel expenditure easily through your registered EZ-Link account or TL SimplyGo account.
  • Get notified on low balances with push notifications by the EZ-Link app or TL SimplyGo app.
  • Top up only what you need to better manage your spend budget
  • You can now also top up for your family members remotely without the need of tapping their cards.
  • Purchase a concession pass via the TL SimplyGo app even when you do not have your concession card with you.

Account-based Concession Cards will be issued to pilot users. This card will only be valid for use during the pilot. This card will not carry your photo or personal particulars, it will only be printed with a serial number.  You will continue to enjoy concessionary fares, similar to your current concession card.

You are required to carry your existing valid concession card (with your photo and personal details) with you when travelling on public transport at all times, for verification of identity during fare inspection checks.

In order to qualify for incentives, please use the new account-based concession card issued to you (rather than your current concession card) for fare payment during the pilot period.

Please note that your existing concession card will continue to be used for redemption of transport vouchers, MOE’s financial assistance scheme and meal subsidies.

To get started, you have to download the EZ-Link app from the Play Store (Android users), Apple Store (iPhone users) or Huawei App Gallery (Huawei devices on Android operating system). Thereafter, please follow the steps below:

Fares and Usage of Account-based Concession Card

You can use your Account-based Concession Card in transit (trains and buses) in exactly the same way as your existing concession Card.

Do note that Account-based Concession Card cannot be used to pay for ERP and carpark charges.

Your existing concession card will continue to be used for redemption of transport vouchers, MOE’s financial assistance scheme and meal subsidies.

To travel on public transport, please tap in and tap out with your Account-based Concession Card on the MRT/LRT fare gantry, or bus fare readers. Please use the same card for entry and exit. The fare reader will display “CEPAS CARD; SIMPLYGO” when your transaction is successful, as shown below.

Bus Fare Reader

__

*If the card reader at the point of boarding or alighting emits an amber light when tapping your card, this means that your Concession Card’s entry/exit has been recorded. If the card reader at the point of boarding or alighting emits a red light when tapping your card, this means your Concession Card has been rejected.

Transactions are not be displayed instantaneously on the fare reader as they are carried out through the backend system.

Your fare expenditure will be available for viewing and tracking on the EZ-Link app. Please enable your push notification via the EZ-Link app to receive the estimated fare after each trip.

To access your detailed travel history and transactions, please create a TL SimplyGo account on the TL SimplyGo app or the TransitLink SimplyGo Portal, and add your Account-based Concession Card in the ‘My Cards’ tab.

Alternatively, you may check your travel history and transactions at Ticketing Machines available across MRT stations and Bus Interchanges.

Please be assured that there are no changes to the fares. Commuters who use an Account-based Concession Card for public transport will continue to enjoy existing concessionary fares, over the duration of the pilot. Please refer to www.ptc.gov.sg/regulation/bus-rail/fare-structure for more information on fares and  https://www.transitlink.com.sg/concession-cards for more information on concession fare eligibility.

Yes. As the Account-based Concession Card issued to pilot participants is not personalised, pilot participants using Account-based Concession Cards are required to carry your existing Concession Card (printed with your personal information and photograph) when travelling on public transport, for verification of identity during fare inspection.

You may be tapping with more than one payment card.

If you are tapping a wallet with multiple cards (e.g. Contactless bank card (Mastercard, NETS or Visa), ez-link or NETS FlashPay cards), the fare reader may not be able to correctly identify the card you wish to travel with. As such, an incorrect transaction will occur or you may see the following error message.

Please take out the card you intend to use from your wallet or bag so that you tap only one card at the fare device to enter and exit. Do remember to always tap in and out with the same card. This prevents the system from considering the entry and exit as two separate trips.

Your card may have insufficient value.

You will not be able to continue using your Account-based Concession Card for travelling if you have insufficient card balance. You will encounter the following messages on the fare devices (as shown in the pictures below).
